How is this decreasing output voltage? Only way I can imagine, is if conductive crud builds up on the eletrodes of the S.G. ,and effectively brings them closer together ( thus a lower breakdown voltage).

I shall await further answers, and then check everything that is suggested

I would guess a dirty spark gap first toooo...
