I always heard it as "knob and tube" wiring, and my house is full of
it... (Victorian house, built 1883. electrified 1910)
but perhaps I am wrong...

Where I grew up in Missouri (ca 1930+) it was called "knob and
cleat" but the tubes were used too of course. Last house I lived in
there was built in 1908 and had both "electric wires" and 1/8" gas
pipe in the ceiling and wall light outlets - guess they had a hard
time making up their mind. Funny thing is that the town was
electrified long before that.
