David,

After viewing the video, I don't think that there's really anthing "fake'
about it. The plasmoid looks a whole lot like the final "flame" that
reaches the top of my high powered Jacob's ladder just before the
arc extenguishes and restarts at the the bottom. When the flame extenguishes at the top, I have noticed that sometimes a small por- tion of the arc flame will "detach" from the main body of the arc for a split second before vanishing. The descriptions of "natural"
ball lightning that I have heard seem to be much brighter and longer
lasting than this. Just a thought.

I'm in agreement that the picture looks wrong. The sodium in the salt water would give a orange/yellow color to the plasma unless it's vaporised copper salts mixed in. The thing sounds more like a water arc gun without the barrel. The balls that I have produced with my coils were like road flare bright. In most natural cases, the ball is seen near carbon sources, which would make it a slow burning pyrotechnic system, rather than a pure plasma. That's why I favor the fullerene or fractal DLA models that the Corum's proposed.

If it's the Real Thing, it'll soon be reproduced and
all over the place. I still find the lack of shadows
and reflections on the table pretty disturbing,
though...

I should add that I'm perfectly willing to believe in
plasma phenomena like this, having seen (with my own
eyeballs) similar things done in microwave ovens. My
skepticism here is directed entirely at the legitimacy
of the "photo". I just had a knee-jerk "hoax"
reaction when I looked at it :-))

Hi Aaron,
You're right, if it's real, the effect will be reproducible and many people will. And if it IS fake, the PICTURE will soon be reproduced all over the place by true believers as a "Proof".
