FW: buying a pole pig

Original poster: "Jim Mora" <jmora@xxxxxxxxxxx>

Hello All,

It seems to me that my transformer is 14400y/x. Does that mean this has the
potential BTW the HV conductors on the pole lines as described below? That
would make a knurly 3 phase, Yes?

Lighting,
Jim Mora

Greetings,

"Y" or "GRDY" is a connection arrangement in a three phase set-up of
these tubs. "Y" denotes that three transformers are each fed a phase
on one of the HV bushings and the three remaining HV bushings are
tied together - and typically grounded - The arrangement resembles a
"WYE" the other (less common these days) is a "DELTA" connection...

Anyway, for all intents and purposes, the transformer your
considering is a 7.2 kv unit as used in the manner you will be using
it in...I will say these big pigs are pretty forgiving with limited
duty cycle runs of over-volting the "primary" (or the secondary I
should say - as the linemen refer to the lv side as a secondary)...

Also if your concerned as to the PCB content of the oil, get yourself
a "Chlor-N-Oil" test kit. I like the 20 PPM screen kit. These are
availbale through most X-Ray repair facilities and also through some
local utiliites (if you know where to look). The kits cost between
$15 $30....Anything that reads <50ppm is considered pcb free,
anything above that opens up a lot of liabilities for you if you
posess such an item...

CHeers,

JAck
