Mostly it's for extra voltage standoff between turns if you're
pushing the coil hard. Also reduces inter-turn capacitance at the
cost of less inductance per coil length. Not done much these days
with since modern materials (enamel/acrylic vs gutta percha/bakelite)
more inductance outweighs the reduced C benefit.

Can anyone tell me what is the use of "space winding" the secondary
and what are the benefits of doing this?
