Curt,

I doubt if I was the first to do this, but I think the first in this
group to post pictures of this system. I started using it in 1998
when I was having extreme problems with discharges on my 5 kva coil
going straight out from the toroid and then right down into the
primary. The lower toroid provides field control for the top of the
coil and the higher, larger, toroid gets the sparks going out and up,
away from the primary. I actually do still get some primary strikes
but not so often as before.

Ed,

Richard Hull used to use a small toroid on top of his extra coil on
his magnifier. Then he installed a cone above this small toroid.
Then a huge toroid was placed on top of the cone. THis cone
provided a transition metal piece from one toroid to the other.
The cone had its wide area on top of the cone so it fill well
between the toroids and filled the gap between them.

Speaking of toroids and top loads, what is the
advantage of using two toroids, larger one on top with
the smaller below? I see this configuration on may
coils and don't understand the reason.
