I didn't want to criticise your work in any way. It's good that you
figured out how to use them since it may be useful for some smaller
coils. These supplies are available in large quantities and for
relatively cheap prices. There are even electronic neon supplies
operating at 12 V DC (CCFL inverters). They are often used to power
fluorescent lamps in PC cases in order to display your hardware to
others. That way it would be possible to create a low-power coil
which can be powered from 12 V DC. :-) You see there are many
opportunities of using these devices.

Ofcource. I claim no recognition for the obvious.
Just seemed that no one had really explaned the
situation, so I did. Solid state supplies do make for
a compact coil...
