I guess that would depend on what you call useful. If you had a 60 inch
diameter secondary wound to 27 inches tall with 16g magnet wire spaced so
you have 10 turns per inch, you'd have an inductance of about 121 mH and
an unloaded frequency of something like 62 kHz.... Adding a tertiary coil
to that seems like it might do pretty well, especially if one wanted a
high power magnifier. If you look at the pics of Tesla's Colorado Springs
coil, his secondary was not very tall compared to the diameter.
