Re: Capacitor needed

wccdusa still lists core and coil type nst's. They are not forgiving to abuse as the France units are. I burned out 2 of them while noticing that it was putting out a spark about the same length as the 10/23 obit, though it was just a 5/25. Still, they can be disassembled, and one of these days, just for fun, I intend to wind my own secondary with 30 gauge wire, and see what kind of output I get.

For some reason, the France-branded 4/20 NSTs were quoted by several
distributors as being over $50 each. I then found that Actown (also
makes a line of open-frame NST's, and any number of their distributors
quoted, from distant memory, something in the high $20's. I bought one,
it worked, and although it was indeed open frame and not potted, the
core construction was such that the shunts could not be removed. It's
possible that a careful session with a drill press might succeed in
reducing the core-area, effectively reducing the shunt and increasing
the current, but I've not tried that.

I just tried Googling Actown, and saw a link "Actuant Acquires Actown".
They still appear to make outdoor NST's, but jkust looking quickly,
didn't see the small open frame units :-(
