This is a very classy high power IGBT/FET driver using pulse
transformer + driver FET's
with VERY fast turn on / turn off times (~ 600ns). Parts are
available at Digikey.
According to article, _any_ duty cycle with carrier frequency up to
200kHz can be
operated.
Another huge advantage is self powered (no need for separate floating
HV isolated
gate drive power supply[ies] ). Drive voltages can also be adjusted
from nominal -9 +20V
bias points. This is one of the BEST design power drivers I've seen
in a long time.
Could also use IRF530/9530 complimentary FETS for even more drive. I
surmise would be
a logical application for SSTC/DRSSTC or OLTC incarnations.
I've got the parts to build a OLTC or SSTC so this may be my first
driver of choice. Drive
FET's as listed are from ZETEX. Also note size of driver compared to
"monoblock" FET.
Just came out in today's EDN paper magazine and posted on line (3/30/2006).
