Hi Chris and all others:
Yes, that motor driving the spark gap is synchronous and I also thought that it
looked fairly small. I'll have to ask Bill for the specs but it did do the
job; additionally, Bill switched from using g10 to g11 for the rotor disk (a
stronger material). I'll be getting the 'show' photos back by this Saturday
and will post some of them soon afterwards. That magnifier was powered by a
25kVA 'pole pig', and additional specs will be posted in the near future.
Also, I've given Bill unconditional rights to these images to use as he sees
fit, if anyone copies any from my website just give me the credit as the
photographer and Bill Wysock as the creator of the magnifier.
I'll have more info later.
