Well, after checking just about everything (including wiring the
resistors in parallel to check if one of them had failed), just by
chance I plugged the cable I was using for the probe into the meter
when the continuity setting was active, and to my relief I was dealing
with a bad cable. I hooked everything up with a new cable and it
worked fine. Thanks for your help Terry.
