Errors that i notice as i scan through the schematic:
1.Your amp meter is parallel to the power source. This is very bad.
All it will be doing there is measuring the current flowing through
the short circuit that it has created. Put in series with the variac
so that you know how much current is going into the coil and not into
the variac.
2.The voltage guage is in series with the power supply, where it will
only read the voltage from the wall, which is already known. Put this
parallel to the variac so you know what voltage the coil is being
supplied with.
3.R1, R2, R3, and R4 are not only not necessary. They will only be
dissapating energy uselessly and limiting the input current for no
reason. I would just get rid of them ASAP
4.C1 should be put on the other side of the variac if i am not mistaken.
5.F2 is not necessary, as F1 will blow before it will anyway
6.L3 is useless, though i may be mistaken here. I dont see what its purpose is.
7.I may be mistaken here also, but the ground connected to the input
AC should not be there.
8.The generel consensus is not not use any inductors in the
protection circuit, as they can damage the NST through some
phenomenon i am not very familiar with.
9.I dont think that the ferrite toroids should be there.
10.R7 (The one across the primary cap) will pop as soon as you fire
up the NST. If you want the cap's energy to be dissipated you need to
discharge the cap after the coil is turned off. I think that is all
you can do with salt water caps, though i may be mistaken here also.
11.The secondary should probably have more turns than that...I think
around 1400 is the optimum number.
That is all i see. May have missed something. I recommend someone
esle look at it also.
Cheers,
Blake
