Re: Recent s.s.t.c work

Hi Ken,

I just tested mine like this:

http://hot-streamer.com/temp/CurrentShunt-test.jpg

I got this:

http://hot-streamer.com/temp/CurrentShunt-test.gif

The yellow CT measures about 20 amps peak. The 1000:1 shunt gives ~400 amps peak and is ~3uS late...

I have used thin film surface mount resistors for shunts and they did fine. Maybe you got the good kind there or something. But mine is definitely the "bad" kind...

Cheers,

        Terry

Hmmm...Don't know about "completely": see my images just posted, "5" vs. "5A".

Hi Ken,

I have a 1000:1 current shunt I guess used for high power 60Hz meters.

I can assure you that they are completely worthless at say 100kHz+ frequencies. I think the metal in them has very poor skin depth or something. But they report very high voltages at high frequencies...

Current transformers are the way to go for sure!!

the 100 mV/50 A shunt.......
