The apparatus you have been describing was surely a great
achievement and it's a pity it no longer exists.
Hey, it does still exist! From what I heard, there were two high
voltage test sites and they both had outdoor Marx banks big enough to
do the Motherland proud ;-)
The pictures on hot-streamer.com are from the site in St. Petersburg
which was demolished. The other Marx bank in Siberia, which is the
one that produced the giant record-breaking arc described in Bazelyan
and Raizer, is still working.
