Probably running anti-parallel SCRs and using an
isolated line sampler to obtain the firing
waveform --- or producing it independently of the AC line.
Dr. Resonance
I received this today and it is interesting for a
PS. Is anyone familiar with the how it
works? Could they possibly replace a variac?

California Instruments AC Power Supplies in Stock
California Instruments P Series
The 801P, 1001P and 1251P are ideal sources for
general purpose AC power applications. With
simple knobs used to set voltage, frequency and
current limit, the P Series provides an
inexpensive source of AC power in a small, portable and lightweight package.
Exclusive Features:
Low Cost
Programmable
Dual voltage ranges
16 Hz to 500 Hz
Up to 1250VA output depending on model
Simple Front Panel Connection
UL and CSA Safety Tested, CE Mark
California Instruments RP Series
The RP Series consists of four models, 801RP,
1251RP, 2001RP and 2003RP. These units are ideal
sources for general purpose AC power applications
that require variable voltage and frequency at
power levels up to 2000 VA. The 2003RP provides
three phase output, all other models provide
single phase output. All RP Series power source
models can be used in table-top mode or rack-mounted.
Exclusive Features
Single (801RP, 1251RP and 2001RP) or Three phase output (2003RP)
Rack Mount
Programmable
Dual voltage ranges
16 Hz to 500 Hz (801RP and 1251RP) or 16 Hz to 5000 Hz (2001RP and 2003RP)
Standard Current measurement
Optional measurements for Peak Current, Voltage,
Real Power, Apparent Power, Power Factor and Crest Factor
Simple Front Panel and Rear panel Connections.
(Front panel connections optional on 2001RP.)
Optional IEEE-488 and RS232C interfaces
CE Mark
California Instruments 5001iX
The iX Series offers 3 or 5 kVA high output AC
and DC power units in a small amount of space. The
iX Series is a full featured source offering
transient generation, arbitrary waveform
generation, standard measurements, harmonic
analysis, waveform acquisition and programmable
impedance. This integrated, multi-instrument
approach, effectively eliminates the need for
additional equipment to create an AC and DC power
test system. The extended output frequency range
of 16 Hz to 500 Hz makes the iX Series suitable
for both commercial and avionics applications.
Exclusive Features
Arbitrary waveform generation
Extensive output transient generation
Arbitrary waveform generation
Extensive output transient generation
Voltage, Current and Power measurements
Harmonic analysis of Voltage and Current
Waveform acquisition of Voltage and Current
Programmable output impedance
Drive non-linear loads without derating
Full output power with 0 to 1 power factor
Drive high inrush current input stages
High peak current capability with up to 5:1 crest factor
Panel height only 7 inches
Compact design saves on rack space
SCPI programming language support and free application software
Closed Case Calibration
Optional MIL-STD704 (rev D and E),
160RTCA/DO-160D, IEC 1000-4-11 and IEC 1000-4-13 tests A
