You can do that no problem. If you use neon gas in
the container it will have a nice red glow discharge
for a few days. Then the air in the plastic will
start to out-outgas and mix with the neon giving
a pinkish color discharge. It will do that even
if the pressure of the neon is at atmospheric.
I've accidentally made a few tubes with residual
air contamination and the effect looks cool. :-)
