Hi Justin,

I would use wood pegs.  I always try to keep metal to a minimum 
around the primary.  Tesla did speak about corona on screws/nails 
near coils, and also of having them heat up.  I use this criteria: If 
it is needed for conductivity or strength, then use metal.  Otherwise 
use nonmetalic means to attach the parts.
