two points, one of which has been made:
'geiger counters' properly so called, are of minimal
use to detect xrays, as such. ('geiger counters'
are optimized for _particles_...)
Any instrument (n any application) can give false readings,
especially around large, noisy, high e field sources.
Such as Tesla coils....
