David,
I bought a variac about 3 months ago on E-Bay and 120V 20A ones were going
for well over $75. I think your $35 is a great price. I wish you had been
selling it when I was searching. I searched quite a bit at the time but I
must admit I was a newbie at buying on E-Bay. Anything I found selling for
less than $75 looked like used up junk. I finally broke down and bought a
140V 20A one for $80. It looks basically unused, even though it is
obviously pretty old. Like most old electronic equipment, it's built like a
tank. I guess I paid too much because I found that if you are very patient
and also willing to do some extra footwork with creative searches like Scot
the BunnyKiller suggested, you WILL find good buys. That's my 2 cents.....
