Jim,
Do you know what kind of plastic packing tape is made of? I am wondering how many layers I would need to obtain a particular amount of insulation. I'm not really concerned about extra insulation but I would like to know the properties of the tape should I choose to use it. My primary concern here is to immobilize the windings to prevent them from coming loose at a later date. I've read on this list where many people have had problems with their secondary windings creeping or even coming off all together after a brief period of time. After the work we put into winding this thing, I definitely want to ensure that the windings stay where we put them. We did try to keep the windings as tight as possible without risking damaging the wire or its insulation.
