Enamel works. Acrylic works, Anything works. (well, I don't know about
latex wall paint...) Really, all you're looking for is something that will
hold the windings in place (implying not too hard and brittle), look halfway
decent, and not dissolve the insulation off the wire. Since wire is
insulated with all sorts of nice exotic plastics these days, all of which
tend to be fairly solvent proof, you've got a wide variety of choices. I've
used Krylon clear coat, for instance.
