Hi all, I'm getting ready to wind a 8.5" x 38" secondary. It will have about 2533 turns of #28 wire.
Is there any down side to this many turns?
Any feedback before I start winding? Mike
Mike,
I think about 1500 turns of a thicker wire would perform better if this is a normal spark gap coil. I think the resistance will be somewhat high for your design. I've heard talk about good performing coils with such a large number of turns, but my own experiments suggest otherwise. I didn't really do a lot of research in this area however. I strongly doubt that it would outperform a 1500 turn coil that uses thicker wire.
