Re: Random TC Questions

Hello Ben,

1. A EMI filter is recommended, but definitely not required. It will help reduce interference entering the supply lines, and hence interfering with other equipment.

2. Closing the Strike rail is a really bad idea, It will form a Shorted turn, and absorb most of then energy you feed from the primary. Lots of nasty things could happen, I would suggest you leave a 1 - 2 inch gap between the ends, and just ground somewhere on the loop, but only ground in one place.

Regards

Peter

Subject: Random TC Questions

Hello Folks. I have two random questions:

1. Is an EMI Filter between the NST primary and the power connection
recommended or required? This is a school project.

2. I've seen images of the strike rail having a gap (not connected or
soldered). I read somewhere that there should be a gap so that the
strike rail does not form an inductance which may interfere with the
operation of the primary/secondary magnetic coupling. What happens if I
connect the strike rail and then run that to the ground?

Thanks again!!
