Hi Jerry,
It is fairly easy to modify an async motor for sync operation. A 1750 rpm
moter has 4 poles. You need to pull the armature out and (with an angle
grinder) put four flat spots at 90 degrees to each other. The width of the
flat spot is important and can be determined from a measurement off of the
stator coil.

Thanks Scott for the info, It realy helped me understand the differance!
Now where can I find a motor that runs @ 1800 rpm? What kinds of
aplications are they used in?
Jerry
