I built one of these about 4 years ago, I used 2 liter pop
bottles and it worked great. I used a Cockroft-Walton multiplier
from 120v to about 10,000v. I gave it to the local Jr. museum, when
I went to check on it they had tossed it :-( I wish I still had it!
