Unless something has changed, I suggest staying away from network54. For
several months their ad-banners were spewing spyware. They disclaimed
responsibility, and refused to even inspect the problem. (It's not only a
free service, and their paying customers never even see the banner ads.)
I gave up and tracked down the problem myself, and submitted lots of
evidence on their support forum. After another delay they admitted that
yes, it was coming from their site, and they fixed the problem. After
encountering such creepy dishonest stuff I abandoned network54 as a
website forum and made sure to warn others away. Months later I heard
that their spyware banner-ads problem was back again. But this happened a
few years ago. Who knows, maybe the support staff has turned over by now.

Yahoo groups isn't wonderful, but it's much superior to network54.
Each subscriber can configure groups.yahoo.com for email or for
web-only-no-email.
