Metal tape is a bit pricey. You can use aluminum foil. You mist coat
only the foil, slap it on and burnish heavily into the Styrofoam. The
foil is thin and readily conforms. Little creases in the foil get
burnished level to the surface.
You can overlay rough areas with small pieces and reburnish. Most if
not all aluminum foil has a bright side and a grey side, be consistent
about which side is up.
