Hi,
If you pump say 900 watts of power into a primary without a secondary in
place (or so badly tuned that..), then about 90% of that power goes into
that now very bright and loud spark gap 8-)) If your having a bad day, it
will go into the exploding caps... I don't think anyone has ever managed
to blown up a primary coil...
In the case of the DRSSTC, I "think" it will just get recycled and not do
too much harm if one has all the limits set right..

Hi,
It means that a very poorly tuned primary is one of the most interesting
space heaters you are likely to see anywhere. ;-)) Most of your input
energy will be converted directly to heat in the caps and primary coil,
and to noise, light, and heat in the spark gap. A much more efficient
fire starter than rubbing two scouts together.;-))
