Re: To Terry or Not To Terry ?

Hi rich,

The filter was only designed for NSTs and their problems. Assuming your transformer is basically better than an NST, then just safety gaps should be fine.

I put a Terry Filter on my first small coil with a 30ma NST, 3" secondary.
I am going to make a larger coil, 8" secondary and am gathering parts for it. The power for it will be from a 13KV 150ma (non NST) transformer, it will have an isolation transformer in front of it to get the correct supply voltage and be controlled by inductive & resistive ballasting , for set up and testing , power will be brought up slow through a powerstat. I will have safety gaps and HV bypass caps to RF ground. Is it necessary to use a Terry Filter to protect the transformer in this type of set up?
