Re: MMC caps

Hey Bobby...

what kind of transformer are you planning to use that requires such a high voltage level on the caps??

a good rule of thumb for peak voltage level planning is to take the rated output value of the transformer and multiply it by 1.4
example.. 15KV X 1.4 = 21KV tack on 10% more and have the cap set rated for 23,500 V this value should be safe enuf for a 15KV trannie...

besides , MMC caps are usually rated for 1500 to 2000 V you would need 20-40 of them in series PLUS the multiplier to get the farads back up to a useable level
very easily talking 100 - 300 caps to reach the levels you are asking about...

another option is to use 3 or 4 Maxwell caps rated for 50KV at .1 or so uF each and series them alot smaller package and more cost effective..

Hi everyone,

Can anyone tell me where I can buy some good caps for
an MMC array? FYI, I am planning to build an array
rated for 40-80Kv.

Bobby,
