That website just talks about their mmc project, not about actually
selling them.

Hi Adam,
You are right. The Geek Group no longer has sales to the public for
several reasons:
First, sales volumes were very irregular. This required either long lead
times for good bulk pricing (which many folks b******** about) or keeping
several $K of inventory on hand, which was not practical money management
for a 501(c)3 charity, which the Group is. Second, small, irregular, retail
sales are quite labor intensive. Thirdly, there was the onset of what I
will call "WalMart mindset" among customers. i.e. Screw loyalty, purpose,
and service - switch suppliers at the drop of a dime. Since the Group is a
non-profit research and educational organization, and not primarily a parts
distributor/shipper, the headaches and manpower tie-ups of these retail
sales became an overwhelming drain on resources, and were discontinued.
