The trick is to start by winding the first two turns side by side
through the center hole and then let the third turn lay in the "V" space
atop the first and second turns.  The forth turn then lays parallel to
the second turn, and then the fifth turn lays against the third turn in
the "V" between the second and third turn.

Kinda' like this:

  3 5 7 9
 1 2 4 6 8  and so forth...

Needless to say, you have to keep the wires tight against the form.
IIRC, the manufacturers use a toothed insulating cap on the ends of the
core to space the wires correctly.
