hm, with the cage so close to your toroid, you increase
the capacitance of your toroid pretty much, thus lowering
the Fres of the whole secondary system.
This might bring Fres down so much, that you are no longer
able to tune to resonance or whatever you calculated.
If you can, remove the cage and use anything smaller as a
ground target, maybe with a little breakout point to start with.
