Rotary construction snag..
Original poster: "david baehr" <dfb25@xxxxxxxxxxx>
Im workin on making a Rotary gap from hardware I have on hand
allready, like parts fom a bycycle trainer that doest get used
anymore. It has a nice 4.5" dia. , .75" thick aluminum flywheel
mounted on a .394" shaft with nice bearings , runs very smooth and
true. I was planning on eight threaded holes to be machined on the
perifery ( ? ) , so bolts with locknuts should all but eliminate
anything flying apart. ...Now, I have a motor with a 3/8" shaft
(.375") , and the problem is getting these two hooked up and keeping
them insulated electricaly. I bought a motor shaft coupler from Mc
master//carr , (rubber insulated ) , but tested it on a neon trans.
and it arced right over. I did play with just a peice of rubber
hose, which seemed to work mechanically, but was allso conductive. I
was trying to avoid belts & pulleys. I guess anything black is out of
the question. was also tryin to keep the coupling somewhat flexable ,
but may have to go with something ridged, like LDPE , or, just scrap
the whole idea,......ANY THOUGHTS OR SUGGESTIONS ?? Thanks, dave
