Hi,

I can't understand why mini resonant transformers aren't used more in RF amplifiers and filters etc. Would they have a place in highly sensitive measurement equipment?

they ARE used all over the place..

Until the last few decades, virtually every radio in the world used coupled LC tuned circuits for IF selectivity.

High power RF amplfiers are FILLED with tuned circuits for impedance matching, voltage adjustment, etc.

On another note, hopefully Terry will let it go as it is just my opinion, but has anyone wondered why there is quite so much pseudoscience associated with Tesla, and where all of this rubbish comes from and why?

Tesla was at just the right time as electrical technology (and industry in general) took off. Not only was he a bright guy, and quite the bon vivant, but carried a bit of an air of mystery (being from those eastern countries where Dracula, Frankenstein, etc., came from... no matter that the geography is confused..), which I'm sure he didn't do anything to suppress. I'm sure it made him even more attractive as a (eligible male, successful, wealthy) dinner party guest, and made the sales pitch even more believable.

Later on, he became almost the archtypical "mad scientist", describing things that were hard to understand, talking about death rays, rapid global communication and transmission of power (remember, this is in an era when long distance communication was very unusal, slow, and almost inevitably bad news, except in business)

Add to that some big economic upheavals, some wars, and you've got great grist for conspiracy theorists.

Much the same thing occurred recently with all the claims of "new business models" running in "internet time". Enron made people believe that they had some special way to do things that could make money by trading in things like internet bandwidth.

Thanks

Chris
