Hi Gerry,
           NST core saturation is almost certainly the problem. Your
LTR caps have suddenly become resonant caps as the core permeability
has fallen with increased winding currents. Interestingly, this
suggests that a stabilizing mechanism would apply for originally
resonant-sized caps. However, the stabilization would most likely
occur at several 10's of kV.
