Some number of years ago, the television transmitter at my station used 2
Varian Klystrons running in parallel to make 60 Kw output power. The
collector of these klystrons was surrounded by a large bucket thru which
large quantities of de-ionized water (DI) flowed for cooling. These
collectors were made of pure finned copper. I do not remember any problems
with corrosion or degradation of the collector after years of operation in
direct contact with DI water.
