Small Table Top Coil Designs
Original poster: "Ken Purcell" <kpurcell-at-augustmail-dot-com>
Hi all,
I've been lurking here for a few weeks now to get a feel for the dialog
on this mailing list. The range of discussions from general Q & A to HV
Research topics is pretty broad.
I'm looking to design/build a small table top Tesla Coil to spark my
sons interest in HV & electronics (pun intended). I'm guessing my
project parameters would be a secondary in the 12" to 18" range with a
diameter of 2" to 3.5". I'd like to be able to keep it out and not be
relegated to the garage or shed and this seems a good size.
But to my question: Do you have any recommendations for existing plans
or software tools to design such a model? I've visited many of your
project sites mentioned in discussion but many are centered on "Bigger
and even Bigger Yet."
I'd like to build the primary around a MOT or Oil Burner Transformer
(although kinda rare here in Texas). Solid state would be great but I
don't mind a stationary or rotary spark gap design.
So far we've build a HV generator from a TV Flyback but that really
doesn't compare to a Tesla Coil.
Thanks for any suggestions you may have.
Regards,
Ken Purcell
