Well, on your variac, it's sitting o a 8 X 11 paper, has a 10 amp (brown ) 
fuse in it, has the body size of a 1000 Va to 1500 Va unit. 4 terminals, 
looks like 120 volt critter ~ 10 to 15 amps, maybe huge in the solid state 
world but very common critter in the tube world. Still, nice to have, glad 
you found one.
