Rich,
A quick and dirty 5 volt filament transformer may be made by cutting out 
the secondary of a small microwave oven transformer and winding about 5 
turns of 12 or 10 gauge wire in its place.  This will give you lots of 
current for your filaments at a very reasonable price.
