In reply to the strain on the transformer, I always run my tesla coils
with the caps in parallel to the transformer. In some cases, it ended
up nearly doubling my NST voltage due to resonance with the parallel
cap. (It was a franceformer so i do have respect for their
reliability). I also use a 4kva 16.6kv non-limited radar transformer
and never ever did i have a problem with it.
