Alternately, for Steinmetz, a book entitled 'Loki' may be of interest,
a popular biography of C P Steinmetz.

Steinmetz and his team developed a 'lighting machine', which i would (without
checking) class as an 'impulse generator/Marx generator' class of device.

I would not call Tesla's contributuions to 'AC Technology' a 'flash in the 
pan':
they extended over a decade or more and set the foundation for  much later 
work.

Steinmetz was more of a 'team player', building on the work of Tesla (and 
others).
