Some people recommend a wire gauge that will give about 1200-1500 turns
using a 4.5 to 5.0 aspect ratio.  Use the wire diameter including the
insulation thickness to determine the number of turns for a particular gauge
(get data from a wire table) Keep in mind that you will probably get less
than with perfect packing.  JAVATC has a link to a wire table.
