. First off, the spark gap functioning is good news- it should be very
bright and very loud! It sounds like your coil is out of tune. Do your cont.
checks, then if you don't have one get a variac. Tune at 30% power, using
something like a tack or a wire taped to the topload. MAKE SURE  POWER IS
OFF AS YOU MOVE TAP TO PRIMARY COIL,  ALSO THAT THE CAP IS DISCHARGED. As
you move the primary tap around by 1/2 turns, the right spot will become
clear. Your tack will make longer streamers. Also look for tuning tips on
the list archives- many coilers much more experienced than me have great
advice. Your coil WILL work . Good luck, Jimbo.
