My own opinion about Marconi is that he didn't actually invent much, he just
marketed other peoples stuff. e.g. the coherer was by Branly, Lodge et al,
the antenna was original Hertz, tuning was Lodge, the induction coil
Ruhmkorff et al, early spark gaps were Rhigi. He just had good lawyers! I
reckon he wouldn't have got very far today, he'd have been sued out of
business.
