I suggest you not hook the Oscope to the toroid but instead attach a piece
of wire as an antenna to measure the resonant frequency.  You may get two
resonances (a primary and secondary) if not in tune.  Primary resonance can
be measured directly by driving it with a signal generator thru 10Kohms and
attaching the scope to the primary.  The secondary resonance can be measured
by driving the base of the secondary with the signal generator and measuring
the effect with the antenna method.
