Has anyone ever tried to encase a pig transformer in a polymer? I was
thinking about draining the oil and replacing it with a solvent to clean all
traces of the oil from the transformer. Next I could remove the transformer
and make a sheet metal form that fits with about an inch clearance all
around it. Then I could place it in the empty can, fill the form with the
polymer, and use the can for a vacuum canister to thoroughly impregnate the
windings. Let is set, remove the form, and I would be left with a lighter,
smaller, protected HV source. Anyone know of any reason this wouldn't work?
What kind of polymer Should be used?
