SRSG remote phase controller

Hi coilers, I have yet another question. I am trying at my third attempt to
make a SRSG. I have

motor. I would like to build the remote
phase controller on John's Tesla Coil page.

to determine the capacitor size. Could someone help me out? Also, I have
a 3.5 amp variac laying around. Is there some reason this wouldn't work?
the motor only draws 1.5A.
