Robert -

It may cost you a bit in shipping charges, but I strongly recommend that you
exchange the 1 lb spools for a single 10 lb spool. A splice anywhere along a
secondary winding is very visible and looks horrible, and trying to make a
clean, high quality soldered splice in a partially-wound coil introduces
many unnecessary problems for a first-time builder. Once you get your coil
operating, the splices will likely continue to cause problems with localized
corona, which may contribute to insulation breakdown of your secondary.

Regards,
Scott Hanson
